ADVANCED COURSE: HOW TO WRITE A SCIENTIFIC PAPER (IN ONE DAY)?

16 Feb 2017 - 4-7 April, 2017 | CIBIO-InBIO, Vairão, Portugal
ADVANCED COURSE: HOW TO WRITE A SCIENTIFIC PAPER (IN ONE DAY)?

The objective of the course is to give graduate students and postdocs an all-round knowledge on communicating science in a number of academic contexts. Although imperative for ‘survival’ in academia, these skills are usually not or only partly taught in university courses.

All participants are expected to take part actively in the course and the course will involve work in terms of preparation of documents and presentations outside formal teaching hours, relying on access to a computer. We envisage that 20-25 participants will gain adequate proficiency in these skills during the course.

Students and postdocs will be asked to participate in discussions, but also in the writing of abstracts and other small tasks. The program can be changed depending on the needs and the interests of the participants. There will also be plenty of time for informal discussions.

The course will consist of:

  • five lectures,
  • one informal seminar,
  • two 1-hour practicals
  • a 1-day practical on how to write a scientific paper
