ADVANCED COURSE: A PRIMER ON LANDSCAPE GENETICS

22 Sep 2017 - December 4-7, 2017 | CIBIO-InBIO, Vairão, Portugal
ADVANCED COURSE: A PRIMER ON LANDSCAPE GENETICS

Orly Razgour

Landscape genetics is a rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field that integrates approaches from population genetics and landscape ecology aiming to understand the degree to which landscapes facilitate the movement/adaptation of organisms by relating molecular data (population structure, adaptations, etc) to landscape structure. This workshop will provide an introduction to this theme by presenting an overview of the most robust approaches, their caveats and limitations. The final day will devoted to connectivity analyses across genetic landscapes This workshop is aimed to post-graduate students (MSc and PhD), as well as more advanced researchers.
Be free to bring own data!

PROGRAMME

1st Day
Morning (Instructor: Orly Razgour)
1. Introduction to landscape genetics and its different aspects, designing landscape genetics studies.
Afternoon (Instructor: Hugo Rebelo)
2. Practical GIS and generating landscape resistance layers.

2nd Day
Morning (Instructor: Orly Razgour)
3. Introduction to landscape genetics statistical analysis, followed by practical data analysis in R (MRDM and mantel tests).
Afternoon (Instructor: Orly Razgour)
4. Practical running circuitscape and generating resistance and genetic matrices (I can find some dummy datasets and we can do this in R).
5. General discussion on landscape genetics.

3rd day
Morning (Instructor: Orly Razgour)
6. Introduction to landscape genomics and gene-environment associations analysis with practical (can all be done in R using simulated datasets).
Afternoon (Instructor: Orly Razgour)

7. Practical sessions using methods from previous days.
8. General discussion on landscape genomics.

4th day
Morning (Instructor: Hugo Rebelo)
9. Introduction to Connectivity analyses of genetic landscapes, followed by practical analysis using Conefor.
Afternoon (Instructor: Hugo Rebelo)
10. Continuation of the practical analysis using Conefor.
