AZORPI - Ecology and evolution of the Azores woodpigeon: support tools for a management and conservation strategy

The Azores woodpigeon (Columba palumbus azorica) is an endemic sub-species protected by the Birds Directive but it is also a bird that farmers dislike for the damage they can cause to crops. Given this dichotomy and the almost complete lack of knowledge about Azores woodpigeon it is urgent to obtain information on the ecology and on the taxonomic and conservation status of this species. Thes project aims to fill this gap and provide the data needed to develop an effective management and conservation plan for the species.
