I’ve completed a BSc and a MSc in Biology at University of Porto (FCUP, Portugal). As an undergraduated student, I performed an internship to study oxidative stress (localization of catalase isoforms 1 and 2 transcripts and protein) in potato plants at Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (Functional Plant Group, IBMC, Portugal). In 2008, I joined CIBIO-InBIO team, where I developed my master thesis, “Genetic diversity of Mediterranean populations of Purple Swamphen or Purple Gallinule (Porphyrio porphyrio) after recent human-mediated range expansions”. After, I worked as a research assistant in other CIBIO-InBIO projects including “A comparative study of parasite pressure, immunity and sexual ornaments between island and mainland birds” and “The role of ecology and behavior in population differentiation: Evolution of endemic forest avifauna in the Caucasus”.
Recently, I got a PhD grant from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) to study the impacts of anthropogenic changes on bird communities and vector-borne parasites in São Tomé and Principe Islands.
