My work lays in the study of different genes acting in the immune response. Besides the primary defense represented by chemical and surface barriers, the immune response involves the recognition of pathogens and the assembly of a specialized response.

Currently, I am focused on the study of TLRs, which are recognition receptors that will signalize microorganisms and activate immune cell responses. In rabbit, some members of TLR family could be relevant for the innate immunity against RHDV (Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus), a virus that has been responsible for the high mortality rates in European rabbit populations. I am also interested in the evolution of viral host cell factors and host restriction factors in lagomorphs, such as CD4 or TRIM5.
