My association with CIBIO began with my Master's thesis work, which was focused on the comparison of morphometric patterns of insular and continental populations of the Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla), a common forest passerine in the Palearctic. Although my main research interest still centers on the comparison of morphometric patterns in bird populations under different selective pressures (like adaptation to insularity or different migratory behaviour) and their underlying causes, I've also been involved in other projects on bird ecology and evolution. Presently I've been working on patterns of genetic diversity and the assessment of gene flow among different species of Snipe (Gallinago spp.) using microsatellites as molecular markers. Apart from research, I'm also interested in science outreach to the greater public, and have participated in several events to promote awareness of natural values and the need to protect them.
