Science and Technology Management Fellowship (BGCT)

CIBIO/InBIO, through ICETA-University of Porto, is seeking for a highly-qualified, self-motivated Project Manager to work on the project PORBIOTA – Portuguese E- Infrastructure for Information and Research on Biodiversity – 22127. This project will be a distributed e-infrastructure to manage biodiversity data and meta-data from multiple sources (data providers). Tailored according to the national needs (research, management, policy, governance, citizen science), but compliant with requirements of LIFEWATCH and other international initiatives, it aims to promote a national agenda of biodiversity survey and research, and to provide services to the administration, the scientific community and society. Specifically, we are seeking an experienced project manager that will work under the supervision and provide assistance to the project’s coordination team. He/she is expected to support work packages of the project related to the overall daily operational coordination and management of PORBIOTA (WP1), while collaborating with researchers and technicians in the inventory of data sources and providers (WP2) and the specification of the requirements and procedures for data models and interoperability (WP3), among other tasks.

 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

The successful candidate will have an MSc degree in any area, but with preference for a degree in fields related to biology, ecology, bioinformatics, or similar. The candidate should have experience in project management, including the preparation of reports for funding agencies. Good communication skills in English and Portuguese, both written and verbal, organization and team work, and strong sense of responsibility and initiative are required. The candidate should also have a driving license, and be available for extensive travel within Portugal and abroad.

 

Work Plan:

The grant holder will work under the supervision of and provide assistance to the project’s coordination team. He/she is expected to support work packages of the project related to the overall daily operational coordination and management of PORBIOTA (WP1), while collaborating with researchers and technicians in the inventory of data sources and providers (WP2) and the specification of the requirements and procedures for data models and interoperability (WP3) among other tasks. Specific tasks will also include the organization of meetings, preparation of reports and other documentation to be submitted to the funding agency (FCT), contacts with project partners and stakeholders, organization of events, among others.

 

Legislation framework:

fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of 29 January, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July, to Fellowships Regulation of FCT (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf), and to Fellowships Regulation of ICETA approved by FCT.

 

Workplace: The workplace will be either at the headquarters of CIBIO/InBIO in the Campus Agrário de Vairão, 4485-661 Vairão, Vila do Conde, Portugal, or at the headquarters of CIBIO Lisboa, in Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Tapada da Ajuda, 1349-017 Lisboa.

 

Duration: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, potentially renewable for additional periods of 12 months, until the end date of the project (16/06/2020), expected to start June 2018.

 

Monthly salary:

The fellowship amount will be in accordance to the table of monthly stipends available in the Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of FCT, I.P., for the BGCT-MSc level, (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), and adjustable in function of the previous experience by a value to be decided by the evaluation jury. This amount may be revised at the time of the fellowship’s renewal. Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis.

 

Selection Criteria:

Valid applications will be selected based on curricular evaluation, with eliminatory character, and interview. The final grade will correspond to the weighted average of the curricular evaluation (50%) and the interview (50%). Only the top five candidates in the curricular evaluation will be interviewed.
