CIBIO is a Research Unit in Biological Sciences which conducts basic and applied research on the three main components of biodiversity: genes, species and ecosystems. Since January 2011 CIBIO is part of InBIO Research Network in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (Associated Laboratory).

Pedro Vaz Pinto, researcher of CIBIO/InBIO - ISCED-Huíla, in Angola, has been awarded the 2013 International Prize “Terras Sem Sombra” for biodiversity, in recognition of his work on the conservation of the giant sable antelope.
