WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN CIBIO?

CIBIO-InBIO is a young and highly dynamic research centre, which conducts world-class research in the fields of biodiversity and evolution. The headquarters are located near Porto, in Northern Portugal, with some local branches/poles located in Lisbon, Évora, Azores Archipelago and Angola.

The Centre offers great opportunities for multidisciplinary and stimulating research

CIBIO-InBIO has state of the art ecology and molecular laboratories and a Next-Generation Genome Sequencing Platform. It hosts 18 Research Groups, which involve more than 150 PhD level researchers and over 100 PhD and MSc students from many different countries.

We nurture a creative and motivating research environment with a great level of inter-collaboration between research groups

Researchers develop fundamental and applied science addressing global but also local biodiversity and conservation challenges. Our research spans a wide range of topics, from genes to landscapes, from virus to human species.

Going global

Research projects are developed all over the globe, and CIBIO-InBIO researchers collaborate actively with more than one hundred foreign institutions, from 74 different countries.

CIBIO-InBIO’s international strategy is also focused on education. We co-organize the international doctoral degree programme in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution – BIODIV - with the University of Porto, University of Lisbon, and the CBA Research Centre (PhD funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology).

The BIODIV programme selects the highest-performing students at international level and involves in-depth research training including lab rotations, and intensive lab- and field-work training by national and international experts. Best students have the opportunity to develop research work at top international research institutions.

 Working in an internacional environment

The working atmosphere is vibrant, multicultural and enthusiastic. More than 20 different nationalities interact daily at CIBIO-InBIO laboratories and corridors, making this one of the most international research centres in the country. English is the official language of the Centre. Every week, English is used on Friday Senior and Student Seminars, Guest Seminars, Inaugural Seminars, Conferences, Journal Clubs and Group Meetings. In addition, we regularly organize several research meetings and congresses attended by researchers from all continents. English is also used in MSc and PhD lectures. All of this provides optimal conditions for hosting international researchers and students.
